Softether Philippines

Next on our list is the VPN called Softether. Softether is one of the commonly used VPN in the Philippines. Due to its flexibility and strong tunneling mechanism,  Softether can go beyond the limits our internet service providers provide. Softether has reached its peak of popularity in between the months of June and July last year when one of our fellow VPN enthusiasts "Captain Underpants" of PHC disclosed some tweaks on the server itself to bypass data allocations on Globe Telecom subscribers even without any data plan and thus, providing free internet connection. Softhether users had established a group on social media to interact and share even a bit of knowledge in setting up and using the VPN.

Softhether is an opensource project created and developed in the University of Tsukuba, Japan. It is available on Windows, Linux and Mac Os platforms both 32 and 64 bit structure.

How to install and setup Softether VPN

Lets head over to the softether download page and lets download the file that we need.

1. Select the software VPN (Freeware)
2. Select Component, in our case it would be Softether VPN Client.
3. Select the platform, in our case its Windows.
4. Select CPU, in our case its Intel CPU (x86 and x64).
5. Then select the latest version: softether-vpnclient-v4.29-9680-rtm-2019.02.28-windows-x86_x64-intel.exe (42.98 MB)

Now save the softether installer on your PC and run it afterwards, to proceed to installation. Choose Softether VPN Client and keep on clicking on yes and aggree to the end user license agreement.

Once the client has been installed we need to setup our server by clicking on the "Add VPN Connection" and filling the information on the highlighted entries below:

1. Provide any name for your server.
2. Key in the Hostname server address.
3. Select port. Commonly used port is 443.
4. Key in or select on the dropdown the virtual Hub.
5. Install or select VPN adapter for your server.
6. Choose which authentication type you want. If it does have a password then select Standard Password Authentication. Otherwise choose Anonymous.
7. Once done, double click on the server you just has setup to connect.
